Cold Weather Shelters Need Volunteers
With overnight temperatures in the 30s, cold weather shelters open up and stay open all throughout the night thanks to volunteers who keep the place running.
The Salvation Army’s cold weather shelter opens when temperatures dip below 40 degrees and offers 75 cots, breakfast and dinner for those staying the night. The shelter is strictly operated by volunteers.
With winter creeping in, the Salvation Army is asking for the community’s help to keep the shelter running. Salvation Army Public Relations Director Morgan Shiyou said, “We need volunteers. We run in four hour shifts and each shift takes about four volunteers to run the cold weather shelter. So, we definitely need volunteers.”
