Coffee With A Cop

Robert Underwood is one Jackson County resident that values the relationship between the police and the people they protect and serve.
He’s one of several that attended Coffee with a Cop at The Dixie Depot.
There was no agenda to today’s event, only deputies chatting with community members.
They wanted Jackson County residents to get to know the deputies patrolling their neighborhoods.
“We want the folks to come out and talk to us. Ask us questions, share concerns so that we can really rebuild trust or any concerns people might have,” said Sheriff Mike Ezell.
“We need the community’s help every day to help us do our job. Without their involvement, there’s not much we can get done. There’s only so much we can do and every bit of involvement with the public and the community just makes our job a whole lot easier,” said Lt. Randy Muffley.
This job can create a sense of division as we have seen with recent national riots.
But, state officials believe events like this will break down that wall and make officers accessible to everyone.
“The visibility, the accessibility it really makes a difference in understanding, you know that’s not someone that’s far off, that’s somebody that I can go talk to. Someone that I can build a friendship with, a relationship with,” said Sen. Michael Watson.
