Cody Ponce traded by Milwaukee to Pittsburgh

When a Big League club finds itself in the midst of a pennant race come late July, the Major League trade deadline has a lot of prospects on high alert. Exhibit A is Cody Ponce of the Biloxi Shuckers.

Today, the right-handed reliever was traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for Jordan Lyles.

This season, Ponce boasted a respectable 3.29 ERA while averaging more than a strikeout per inning across 27 appearances out of the bullpen.

The former second round pick says farewell to MGM Park as one of the longest tenured Shuckers on the roster, having joined the club for the first time in August 2017 before spending the entire 2018 season in Biloxi as well.

At the start of the day, the Brewers were one game back of both the Chicago Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals in the NL Central standings.

In a corresponding move, the Shuckers designate Marcos Diplan for assignment.
