Trauma patient care can save lives. Today, the ones on the front lines gathered on the Coast to learn from each other.

The 17th annual Mississippi Coastal Trauma Care Symposium took over the IP Casino starting today. The symposium puts everyone from flight nurses to physicians in the same room. It covers topics like dealing with hot car death, mangled extremities, as well as pediatric traumas.

Dr. Pete Avara is a trauma surgeon at Singing River Hospital and tells News 25 details are imperative when it comes to trauma care. “Taking care of an injured patient in particular when they are massively injured takes a lot of energy and a lot of coordination and the more you review how this works and the tricks and the little things that happen that can make a difference and just helps us get better at what we do and the symposium is a way to disseminate information and get people involved in what we are doing.”

The symposium will run through Thursday.
