Coastal organization trying to create skatepark

More recreational activities could be coming to the coast!

The City of Biloxi is in the planning stage of turning the under-utilized area under I-110 into a recreational spot, starting at the Back Bay there would be kayaking, basketball, and a skate park.

There are no skateparks on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, leaving skaters no choice but to drive out of town.

Tyler Prowant has skated across the world and has learned the impact having a skateboard can have on children and adults.

He first started a skating meet up under the bridge, and now he’s hoping to make it a permanent skate spot.

“So, the real benefit of skateboarding right now.. there are a couple things, but really it’s focused on the youth and growing our community,” said Prowant. “So, skateboarding teaches them confidence skills, resilience skills, and social networking skills beyond just social media. Skateboarders are very supportive of each other, it’s a very inclusive community.”

By forming this organization, Prowant hopes they can keep the skatepark safe and fun for the community.

You can support the organization by going to their GoFundMe page.
