Coast Transit Authority preparing for hurricane season

With hurricane season approaching, residents in Harrison County are being urged to prepare for potential evacuations.

Should an evacuation order be issued, the Coast Transit Authority stands ready to assist Harrison County residents. They take evacuees to shelters throughout the county manned by the American Red Cross.

CTA emphasizes the importance of creating an evacuation plan ahead of time and pre-registering for their services now if they’re needed.

When CTA picks up residents, they need to be ready with their supplies when they go to a shelter and be prepared to board the buses promptly. CTA Executive Director Kevin Coggin said, “Be ready with your supplies when you go to a shelter and be ready to get on the bus when we get there. A lot of times, we go to pick people up and they don’t get on the bus and they don’t leave and other people may need us.”

Harrison County residents can register for emergency hurricane evacuation assistance online at coasttransit.com or by calling 228-896-8080.

Pre-registering with the CTA ensures that residents receive timely information and service in the event of an evacuation order.
