Coast schools dominate in swim lanes

Some big congratulations are in order for our coast swim teams that competed in the State Championship meets this past weekend! Class III  took place on Friday, with Classes I and II happening on Saturday all at the Tupelo Aquatic Center.

Starting out with huge news, the St. Patrick Girls swim team are your Class I Girls State Champions for the first time in school history! The girls also won the 200 medley relay and the 400 freestyle relay. Individually, Natalie Gordon not only won first in the 100 freestyle, but also first in the 50 freestyle, now holding the new Mississippi high school state record which is now 24.37  Reece Catchot also placed first in the 100 breaststoke, and our former WXXV Student Athlete of the Week Annabelle Tarrant took home gold in the 200 freestyle. Way to go, Irish!

Staying in Class I, St. Stanislaus’s very own Gibson Williams broke not just one, but two state swim records. He now holds the state record in the 200 free style and the class one record for the 100 fly. Congratulations, Reece!

For Class II, the Pearl River Central Blue Devils are your back-to-back Boys State Champions! The boys also won the 200 free relay, and individually Wyatt Waltman placed 1st in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle.

Closing out with Class III, our former WXXV Student Athlete of the Week and Pascagoula’s Naomi Smith took home the gold for the girls 200 IM for the second year in a row, while her teammate Colton Sprague took home first in the boys 100 breastroke.

Congratulations to the Panthers, and congratulations to all of our coast teams who participated in last weekend’s State Championship!
