Coast residents ready for Boston Marathon

We are just four days away from the world’s oldest annual marathon and residents along the Gulf Coast will be in attendance this year.

Every year on Patriot’s Day, the Boston Marathon takes place with thousands of runners from all over the world to run the 26 mile long race.

Coast resident Charles Wambolt says he took on the challenge of running marathons as a milestone for his 50th birthday. He’s been training for the past 18 weeks through Diamondhead on similar incline routes with his longest run being 25 miles in preparation for the Boston Marathon.

“Well there’s only one Boston. Boston is the oldest marathon in the nation and it’s very unique spirit there, the spirit of Boston and of course with the bombing, a few years ago, and the comeback with the first American to win the very following year after, I think, 20 years. He helped to encapsulate the spirit of America. So, it’s called Boston Strong and Boston is a strong city.”

Wambolt says he feels thankful and is ready to take on the challenge. He leaves tomorrow morning. If you want to stay updated on him, follow him live on the route. His bib number is 9767.
