Coast mayors ringing the bell in South Mississippi

Mayors across the Coast are braving the winter weather today to raise money with the Salvation Army.
The mayors in Ocean Springs, Moss Point, and Pass Christian will all be ringing today, along with Gulfport Mayor Billy Hewes. News 25 caught up with Hewes and several other Gulfport officials who have all teamed up to keep the bell ringing all day long in an effort to draw in donations that will go towards assisting the Salvation Army as they help those in need. “We’re proud to play a role here, play a part, and hope folks come out. There’s bell ringers across this community, the City of Gulfport has selected today and ringing bells to try and raise some money for Salvation Army,” said Mayor Hewes.
Gulfport Economic Development Director David Parker said, “Like the mayor said, the Salvation Army has a wonderful mission. It was real cold last night, gonna be cold tonight. They’re taking care of people that need it the most.”
The money raised annually between November 28th and December 24th will help the Salvation Army provide food, shelter, and social services to those in need throughout the year.
