Coast man’s murder conviction appeal denied

A Coast man convicted in the strangulation death of a woman in 2022 has an appeal denied by the State Court of Appeals.
Pitipong Daengbunga was convicted in 2024 of first-degree murder and tampering with evidence in the death of Jamie Boggs and is serving life in prison plus ten years on those charges.
On appeal, Daengbunga argued that police violated his constitutional rights at the time of his arrest by questioning him at the VA Hospital in Biloxi without first reading him his Miranda Rights.
Judges rejected that claim, ruling Daengbunga was not in custody at the time and had voluntarily approached police to report the killing.
The court also ruled prosecutors properly introduced evidence of Daengbunga prior domestic violence conviction, saying it was relevant to show intent and to challenge his claim that he acted in self-defense.
