Coast high school football players prepping for Mississippi Alabama All-Star Game

In a who’s who of high school football super stardom, the Gulf Coast is responsible for more who’s in the Mississippi-Alabama All-Star Game than any other year in at least the last half decade.

This afternoon, News 25 caught up with five of the seven that are all part of the 40, gunning for Mississippi’s fourth win over the Yellow Hammer state in the last five years.

Mississippi-Alabama All-Star Game Head Coach Todd Breland said, “They have the trophy and they’re going to bring it to Mississippi Saturday, and we’re going to keep it here.”

St. Martin Place Kicker/ Punter Gabriel Showalter said, “Well, it’s a great experience. Like, the Alabama kicker is committed to Auburn already. It’s just great knowing that I’m going up against that type of talent, and that I’m on that level with them.”

Moss Point wide receiver Larry Simmons said, “It’s good knowing that everybody has the same amount of talent, knowing that we can all go out and dominate and not have to worry about anything. It’s a pretty good team we’ve got.”

George County wide receiver Marquez ‘MoJo’ Dortch said, “It’s a blessing to be able to play with all the people that I’ve played against coming up through high school, and see how they’ve developed over the couple past years.”

Biloxi defensive lineman R.J. Moss said, “It just makes you better each and every day because you know they’re on the same level as you, so you put more moves in your bag to do on them.”

Gautier offensive lineman Bryson Hurst said, “If our quarterback stands up right the whole game, we’re going to win this game. And honestly, this is my first time ever being in this game. This is going to be my first and my last, so I want to make the best of it and hopefully we’re going to win.”

Mississippi is hosting this year’s classic at Southern Miss with kick off set for 12 noon on Saturday at M.M. Roberts Stadium.

Other Coast players taking part are Poplarville’s Khalid Moore and D’Iberville’s Colton Deshazo.
