Coast death row inmate’s latest appeal denied by state Supreme Court
The Mississippi Supreme Court rejected a new appeal from a South Mississippi death row inmate Thursday.
The latest appeal from Leslie Galloway III’s attorney asked the state’s highest court for post-conviction relief, arguing a recent U.S. Supreme Court decision should affect his case.
The justices ruled Galloway’s latest filing is not timely in terms of a possible resolution and added that the cited U.S. Supreme Court case Smith v. Arizona does not apply retroactively to cases.
Galloway was sentenced in 2010 for the 2008 rape and capital murder of 17-year-old Shakeylia Anderson of Gulfport.
Previous appeals by Anderson and his attorneys to the state Supreme Court and U.S. Supreme Court have all been denied.
