Coast cities celebrating Amtrak return to South Mississippi
Amtrak service will be returning to South Mississippi later this month.
Several cities, especially those along the route, will be holding celebration ceremonies before the big day.
In Bay St. Louis, the train is expected to pass by the station around 9:30 in the morning. All who head to the Bay St. Louis Depot are encouraged to dress in their best purple, green, and gold.
The City of Gulfport will be hosting the ‘Beads, Brass, and the Mardi Gras Line’ event on August 16 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. The train will stop in Gulfport at 10:10.
In Biloxi, the Mardi Gras Service will make a brief stop at the Amtrak platform on August 16 from 10:50 to 11:05 that morning.
The City of Pascagoula will be also be holding a pep rally to welcome Amtrak to town. The Pascagoula Pep Rally takes place August 16 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The City of Ocean Springs will also be celebrating the new Mardi Gras service. The city does not have an official stop on the route, the train does pass through the town on the route. Residents can come out on August 16 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the L&N Depot for the community send off as the train passes by.
The Mardi Gras service will open to the public on August 18. The service makes stops in Mobile, Pascagoula, Biloxi, Gulfport, Bay St. Louis, and New Orleans. For more information, click here.
