Coast beekeeper talks about the importance of bees

Bees are some of the world’s most important pollinators. We rely on them to sustain our food supply and our economy.

News 25 visited a local apiary this morning to see what all the buzz is about and learn about the life of an apiarist or beekeeper in South Mississippi.

News 25 talked with Dale Beaugez who has been keeping honey bees since the 90s. During a good year, Beaugez will harvest four or five 55-gallon drums of honey. “It gets you outside. It’s really nice. It’s not just bee keeping. It’s plants, a nature thing. Plants, birds, it is a lot of symbiotic relationships. You met a lot of neat people that are interested in the same things.”

If you’re interested in becoming a bee keeper reach out to the Mississippi Gulf Coast Beekeepers Association. They have a meeting monthly on the second Tuesday of every month at 6 p.m. at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College in Gautier.
