Coast author returns for book signing

A Harrison Central graduate returned to the Gulf Coast this afternoon to ink her name on some of her published works.

Author Connie Spanhake held a book signing today at Gateway United Methodist Church in Gulfport, just two miles from the South Mississippian’s alma mater.

Spanhake currently resides in upstate New York where she teaches math.

In the last eight years, Spanhake has published eight books including children’s books and mystery novels.

Spanhake says she draws inspiration for her childrens books from her students. All of her picture books have lessons in them like perseverance, difference in families, and celebrating being unique.

The author’s newest book is a mystery novel titled ‘Dark Secrets.’ “I love mysteries and so I once read that write the kind of books you like to read and so that’s what I write now. It has lots of twists and turns and they’re a lot of fun to write. For me, the most fun is talking to the people around here and just learning about the things they like to read about and the authors that they read and things like that.”

Books-A-Million in Biloxi will soon have Spanhake’s books available for online purchase.
