Clem Dellenger Golf Tournament returns to the Coast

The Clem Dellenger Memorial Golf Tournament returns to the Coast after it was canceled last year due to COVID.

Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College is hosting the tournament at Hickory Hill Country Club in Gautier.

As part of the school’s homecoming events, money raised from the tournament will fund Bulldog athletics.

Hickory Hill Country Club only reopened October 11th after being closed for the past year due to the pandemic.

The tournament is named for the college’s football coach who helped the Bulldogs earn a national championship title in 1971. MGCCC Head Golf Coach Brad Thornton said, “You know, this tournament shows how much support that this community college has, and our athletic program. We have guys that come from all over the coast year in and year out and it means a lot to our program and our student athletes as well.”

Hickory Hill owner Troy Guillotte said, “This is something that’s very exciting for us; this is a school that I went to as a young man out of high school, and my heart is at this school and we’re very thrilled to be having them here.”

The golf tournament concluded mid-afternoon with lunch and a closing ceremony
