Cleaning up aftermath of Mardi Gras parades
The day after Fat Tuesday means a huge clean up after the beads and confetti are left behind on the parade route.
Local business owners, citizens, and the City of Biloxi Parks and Recreation crews clean up the streets of Biloxi after the Gulf Coast Carnival Association Mardi Gras Parade.
Crews were out as early as 5 this morning, working diligently to grab as much debris as possible.
Cleaning crews around the city share an update on the progress and what’s all left to pick up. Zach Lunsford with Half Shell Oyster Cleanup Crew said, “The little pieces of paper. I don’t understand why they do that. Other than that, I think it’s not going to be too bad but the paper like it’s like the confetti, it’s everywhere. I don’t understand. It usually takes us about 30 to 45 minutes to come out here every week and today it’s probably going to take us about six hours to get it all cleaned up.”
Jamie Lee with City of Biloxi Parks and Rec said, “Today, it’s been beautiful and the crews have responded well. Had a good plan going in with all the city departments and cleanup, it went really well.”
