Cleaning the Mississippi City cemetery

Students from Southern Miss and Pass Road Elementary came together today to clean the Mississippi City Cemetery.

The University of Southern Mississippi Anthropology faculty and students are in Gulfport to help with restoration efforts at the Old Mississippi City Cemetery. USM joined members of local historical societies and students from Pass Road Elementary.

A training session kicked things off at Pass Road Elementary to discover how anthropology helps understand community projects like this.

Students learned techniques for cleaning the cemeteries and headstones. Volunteers are signed in and assisted in preserving and maintaining the historic Mississippi City Cemetery.
