Class Act Teacher of the Month: D’Iberville Middle School’s Jessica Yarber

After a December doubleheader for our Class Act series, we’re heading back to class to highlight a stellar South Mississippi teacher in our first teacher of the month highlight for 2024.

It’s the start of the new semester for the kids and teachers of D’Iberville Middle School and teachers are hard at work.

Now in her eighth year in the classroom, Jessica Yarber teaches ELA and science, two subjects she says make each day interesting with her students. “We do a lot of experiments, a lot of hands on, that’s what I love about teaching, the science part.”

On top of her work in the classroom, Ms. Yarber coaches volleyball and sponsors student council, keeping her quite busy each year. “At the beginning of the school year its very crazy, you’re trying to get back into your routine of you know, going back to school, and then also, you have game nights.”

From a young age, Ms. Yarber knew she wanted to be a teacher. With the goal of making learning a stress-free experience for her students. “Even throughout middle school, high school for myself, I was always wanting to help others, so they could understand the concept of the content. And so, I kind of bring that into my classroom as well.”

As the fifth-grade students at D’Iberville Middle get settled in for a second semester, their teacher has high hopes for them this year and beyond. “My hope is that they succeed in life, and you know, go far, graduate high school, college, and do great things.”
