Clarity Bill Passes House & Senate; Sits on Gov.’s Desk

A reason for Coast residents to celebrate: the Clarity Bill has passed both the House and the Senate and is sitting on the Governor’s desk to become law.

The Clarity Bill will require property insurers to explain how and why they charge what they do and clarify it by zip code. Rates along the Coast have gone up 300% since Hurricane Katrina, and residents fear they are being charged more than north Mississippians. While the act won’t adjust rates, it will provide hard numbers so homeowners can measure for themselves how their premiums compare to their neighbors statewide.

Representative Scott DeLano (R), District 117, says, “Clarity Bill is a bill we’ve worked on for the past three years to try to get passed through the whole legislative process. It wasn’t until we’ve had a lot of assistance from some local groups down here on the Coast that we’ve got this through. It’s a very good day for the Coast.”

The Governor has openly supported the Clarity Bill and it should be signed into law very soon.
