Clarity Act Passes House Committee

Hoping to increase transparency, the Clarity Act looks to provide information for residents in Mississippi.

The proposed bill passed a House committee and is being discussed in the Senate. If it passes, the Clarity Act would require insurance companies to disclose how much they are collecting in insurance premiums in each zip code and how many claims they are processing.

Paulette Mowbray, an advocate for the Clarity Act, says, “We want the total dollars in those two categories by zip code, and we want this because other states, Alabama and Louisiana on either side of us, have already passed a Clarity Bill and they are getting that information in exactly that form. So in order to make sense of all of the information, to see the picture on the entire Coast, we need to have it in that format.”

Advocates want to be clear that the bill will not change insurance rates.
