Civilian firearm safety course
Are you a beginner gun owner or want to freshen up on handgun safety?
The Gulfport Police Department is offering a civilian firearm safety course for basic handgun safety. Those who wish to attend must provide their own handgun and at least 50 rounds of ammunition.
Not only will participants learn the basics of handling a firearm, but also gun laws in Mississippi plus the legality of protection when using your firearm. O.I.C. of Training Sgt. Paul Podlin said, “They may not properly secure their firearms or they’ll think ‘if I place it on the refrigeration, my child can’t get to it’ and that’s not true. We actually show videos of children climbing up the refrigerator, climbing up the side of it to get a toy. Well if they can get that toy, they can get that firearm.”
The class can hold up to 20 students so be sure to register for $25 before August 14th. Classes are held August 16th and 17th from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Call 228-868-5703 to sign up.
