City’s newest replica, Fournier & Son Seafood, adds to historical society’s annual Old Town Village Tour
D’IBERVILLE, Miss. — You can help preserve local history this holiday season by touring 23 miniature replicas from the Gateway City’s past.
The D’Iberville Historical Society invites you to its 3rd annual Old Town Village Tour on Saturday, December 14, 2024 at the D’Iberville Town Green, 10004 Central Avenue.
This free, self-guided tour goes from 10:30 a.m. until 1 o’clock and showcases replicas featuring past and present establishments of D’Iberville. Local descendants and volunteers will also be present to share stories and artifacts for various replicas from Madeline Quave’s Store and the D’Iberville Curb Market to The Peoples Bank D’Iberville-St. Martin Branch, and even Doris’ Hot Tamales Stand.
Retired city employee Ralph Borries is credited with handcrafting the original twenty replicas for the Old Town Village of D’Iberville. Dale Greenwell, the society’s founding president, worked closely with Borries to ensure the historical integrity of each replica. After Borries retired a few years ago, City of D’Iberville employee Tony Perkins took the helm. Perkins’ newest replica is the R. Fournier (pronounced FOOn-yay) & Son Seafood factory, a family legacy that dates back to 1928.
Society leaders believe visitors and residents will learn something new about the ‘old history’ of a ‘young city’ by taking the tour.
“This is the perfect way to reminisce on beloved establishments from the Five Points area, which we know today to be Central Avenue and Racetrack Road,” said Society President Keith Wilson.
Refreshments will be served, and volunteers will be accepting monetary donations in exchange for an event program to help fund additional historical society projects.
