City wide proclamation for Juneteenth in Gulfport

The City of Gulfport and Mayor Billy Hewes issued a city-wide proclamation for Juneteenth.

The ceremony took place in the Gulfport City Council Chambers. Mayor Hewes applauded African-American achievements in the city while also honoring the day.

Residents from the city as well as elected officials took part in the ceremony.

Miss Black Gulf Coast Natassia Ayodele reciting poetry during the event. “Remember those who fought and bled. Those who died so freedom could spread. Their courage and sacrifice we cannot forget, as we cherish the liberties we now get. Freedom Day – a time to reflect on the battles fought to protect. The values and rights we hold dear, that make our existence crystal clear.”
