City Officials Announce John McKay Day

Long time public official John McKay received an honorary gift during tonight’s Ocean Springs City Council meeting.
Officials presented McKay with a proclamation declaring January 19th as John McKay Day. McKay first started his career as Ocean Springs’ first full-time recreation director in 1971. Throughout the years, he established the first t-ball, flag football and soccer leagues and served three terms as the Ward 5 alderman for Ocean Springs. McKay also served as a Jackson County Supervisor for District 5 and as the board president.
“What can I say? It’s great, with my family here and the many supporters and friends that I’ve had. It just tops it all of like icing on the cake for a great career that I look back on with accomplishments and pride in what I’ve been able to do and help the citizens of Jackson County and Ocean Springs,” said McKay.
McKay’s family was front and center tonight as he reminisced on his career and delivered words of encouragement to Ocean Springs board members and community members.
