City of Waveland leaders working on floodplain management

WAVELAND, Miss. (WXXV)- The City of Waveland is taking steps that could eventually save residents money on flood insurance.

For the past three years, the city has been working to improve its rating in FEMA’s community rating system.

A better rating means lower flood insurance premiums for property owners insured through the National Flood Insurance Program.

As part of that effort, Waveland city leaders are creating a floodplain management plan.

The city is currently in the middle of a ten-step planning process. The results of that planning process will be included in a draft plan expected to be released online in May.

Public meetings will also be held at some point to gather community input.
