City of Ocean Springs votes to stop using camera ticketing system
Ocean Springs city leaders have voted to stop using the camera-generated ticketing system.
The city terminated the contract it had with Securix Systems, the company managing the system. Ocean Springs entered into the contract in an effort to crack down on uninsured motorists.
Ocean Springs and Securix are now facing legal issues and Securix is continuing to mail tickets to drivers, but without the Ocean Springs city and police logos.
Although it’s not required by the City of Ocean Springs, Mayor Kenny Holloway is encouraging those with tickets to still pay. “They’re still sending out citations. I wouldn’t say it’s a requirement, but it’s encouraged by Securix to come into the program and pay.”
Traffic cameras were immediately disconnected after terminating the contract with Securix which ends July 4th.
