City of Ocean Springs Sidewalk Sale for Tax Free Weekend

OCEAN SPRINGS, Miss. (WXXV)- Mississippi’s annual Tax Free Weekend started Friday and this year, Ocean Springs is making it even bigger.

Local businesses are rolling out the deals and making back to school shopping a whole lot easier.

Mississippi Tax Free Weekend runs from July 11 until the 13th. Shoppers won’t pay sales tax on eligible clothing, footwear, and school supplies priced under $100.

In Ocean Springs, the savings stretch even farther. The annual July Sidewalk Sale is back, with shops uptown, downtown, and all-around town offering discounts from 20 to 75 percent off.

We spoke with organizers and local stores about what’s to be expected in the coming days. Cynthia Sutton with the Ocean Springs Chamber of Commerce said, “It’s just that time everybody is getting ready to go back to school. It’s a great way for retailers to clean out their inventory and get ready for the back to school or fall inventory and this is just a fun way to do it. We have over 40 businesses in Ocean Springs that are participating. That have all kind of sales that are from $10 to 50 percent off and win something when you buy something. It’s just a fun way to get people out and about in Ocean Springs and shop a little.”

Charisma Boutique Manager Faith Adams said, “Tax Free Weekend is really important to a business because just bringing people in, even from out of states. It helps with back-to-school shopping. With a lot of schools going back to school and a lot of schools are going back to normal clothes, people are looking to help and save a little bit of money, especially when it comes to a local store.”
