City of Ocean Springs holds Community Meeting Comprehensive Plan
The City of Ocean Springs held a community meeting to discuss future city development.
Many concerned citizens were in attendance for the community meeting comprehensive plan sharing their ideas, thoughts, and opinions on what they would like to see added or taken away in the City of Discovery.
Some of the topics discussed were land use, residential, commercial, and industrial development, along with job welfare, road work, and transportation, and much more.
Although the meeting was focused on the future goals of Ocean Springs, many residents voiced concerns about the newly proposed urban development, fearing they will lose their homes. NAACP Jackson County Branch Vice President Richard L. Jackson said, “What I’m actually hoping that comes from this, is that the mayor, Kenny Holloway and the board, would reconsider not only their new comprehensive plan, they can still tweak it, but I hope that they reconsider it and take out the urban renewal plan that pretty much affects the predominantly black area of this community and the poor citizens that also reside here in Ocean Springs.”
The next meeting at the Ocean Springs Civic Center will be on October 2nd for the board of aldermen special call meeting.
