City of Ocean Springs celebrates Small Business Saturday

Small Business Saturday was hailed a success in Ocean Springs, giving shoppers a jump on collecting gifts at discounted rates.

It was a perfect Saturday to take a leisurely walk through downtown Ocean Springs. Droves of visitors lined up outside the area’s independent shops.

Not only does shopping locally help new business owners, it keeps money flowing through the area.

Many stores marked down prices up to 25 percent off. Places like the newly opened Pendragon Apothecary appreciate the extra foot traffic. Pendragon Apothecary Owner Edward St. Pe said, “The Chamber is coming up with these creative ways to get people to discover downtown Ocean Springs and this is one of them. So, you know, when people come, people maybe — ‘We haven’t been here before.’ They find out that it’s really an interesting little downtown area, you know. A lot of people compare it to Fairhope in Alabama, but most people say they like it better than Fairhope. A beautiful place. And it’s on the beach — the beach is right over there. So, a lot of good things — it’s got a good vibe, you know?”

Pendragon Apothecary is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
