City of Ocean Springs celebrates Food Month

Ocean Springs Chamber of Commerce Main Street Tourism Bureau is celebrating its restaurants by naming May ‘Food Month.’

Food Month was dubbed by Ocean Springs as a way to show appreciation for restaurants and eateries. Throughout the month the city will be hosting food-related festivities. Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Cynthia Sutton said, “It’s a cool way for them to expose their food. Their chefs create something special, something different for spectators to taste. So, our restaurants are very excited to be a part of this and looking forward to another fun year.”

Each Friday in May, the Ocean Springs Chamber will be giving away a gift certificate to various restaurants around town on social media.

The City of Ocean Springs has over a hundred restaurants. With that many choices, it is hard to try them all. That’s why restaurants around here participate in Taste of Ocean Springs.

On May 11th at 6 p.m., chefs come out of the kitchen and onto the streets to offer samples from their restaurants. Murky Waters has participated for the last eight years. Murky Waters General Manager Iris Baria said, “It’s an event where we all come together and we are treated with so much respect by the city, by the chamber. It just makes you feel like they’re really paying attention and they’re listening to us. They understand our needs and, you know, they’re bringing these things right to our businesses, you know, right to our front doors.”

Kilwins is a sweet shop that opened Tuesday. This is their first year participating and they are pulling out all the stops. Kilwins General Manager Antonio Tommasone said, “We’re really excited to be a part of it. And we’re going to be raffling off a ten-pound chocolate bar for the Taste of Ocean Springs. So, we’re really pumped.”

Tickets can be purchased for $35 at the Ocean Springs Chamber, but you can enjoy these restaurants all food month long.
