City of Ocean Springs approves 2022-23 financial budget

A public hearing was held tonight in Ocean Springs regarding the city’s financial plan for the 2022-2023 fiscal year.

The hearing was held at city hall and the hot topic on the agenda was a proposed ad valorem tax revenue increase.

Neighbors were given the opportunity to speak and present evidence in regards to the increase as well as the city’s budget proposal and possible tax changes.

Despite push back from locals, the Ocean Springs board voted 4 to 3 to pass the 2022-2023 budget, including the two-mill tax increase. Mayor Kenny Holloway said, “We’re trying to provide the basic services, and this is what it’s all about. This is not about today, this is about tomorrow and the future of Ocean Springs, so we’ve beat this thing to death. We’ve looked at every other way to cut, add, or whatever.”
