City of Ocean Springs announces exciting new projects to enhance city’s Infrastructure

Ocean Springs, MS —The City of Ocean Springs is thrilled to announce a series of new infrastructure projects designed to improve the quality of life for residents and promote sustainable growth within our community.

These projects, ranging from sidewalk repairs to storm drain improvements, underscore the city’s commitment to updating, maintaining and sustaining the city’s infrastructure.

At their meeting on Tuesday, November 5, the Board of Aldermen authorized advertisement for 5 projects totaling in $10.3 million. These projects are being funded by state grants including the American Rescue Plan Act.

Projects Include:

  1. East Side Sewer Diversion Project:
  • Improvements to the sewer service in the eastern sections of the city
  • Activity is funded through ARPA and the State MCWI program with match provided by Jackson County
  • Total Project Costs: $2 million
  1. Storm Drain Improvements, Weeks Bayou & Halstead Bayou:
  • Improvements to the storm drain systems that impact Davison and Calhoun.
  • Activity is funded through ARPA and the State MCWI program with match provided by Jackson County
  • Total Project Costs: $2.8 million
  1. Fort Bayou Storm Drain Improvements:
  • Improvements to the storm drain systems throughout Fort Bayou Estates
  • Activity is funded through ARPA and the State MCWI program with match provided by Jackson County
  • Total Project Costs: $3.6 million
  1. Front Beach Sidewalk Improvements:
  • This phase will address the panels not included in the first two phases with the appropriate repair
  • Activity is funded through Jackson County’s current GOMESA award
  • Total Project Costs: $700,000
  1. Washington Avenue Utility Improvements:
  • Utility and roadway improvements for the foot of Washington Avenue between Front Beach Drive and
  • LaFontaine Avenue
  • Activity is funded through Tidelands and GOMESA
  • Total Project Costs: $1.2 million

Mayor Holloway emphasized the importance of these projects, stating, “Our city is committed to investing in infrastructure that not only meets the needs of our growing population but also enhances the overall quality of life. These initiatives will ensure that our community remains a wonderful place to live, work, and play.”
