City of Moss Point feeling impacts of tornado

Just before 3 p.m. today, a tornado touched down in Moss Point near Main Street.

First responders immediately responded, shutting down the street where the most damage is. Many homes have received unfathomable damage, as well as local businesses and a Moss Point school.

Alongside the destruction of buildings, many roads have been left undrivable due to debris and fallen power lines.

Those displaced from their homes can find shelter at Pelican Landing.

Mayor Billy Knight says officials are assessing the damage and will hopefully know more soon. “We’ll start accessing the property damage so we’ll know what support we might need from the state, from the government as we can start to rebuild and help people get back on their feet. We’ve got a lot of work to do, but our people are strong. And we’re going to come back from this. It’s just going to take a little time.”

If you or a family member needs assistance or temporary shelter, contact the Moss Point Police Department at 228-475-1711.
