City of Gulfport invites residents to help design new flag
The next steps in creating a city flag in Gulfport are now underway.
The city has opened the flag search up to the public to design a concept for the next flag.
Mayor Billy Hewes announced today they are opening an online portal for residents to submit their ideas for the new flag. The deadline for the flag design submission will last until September 8th for anyone to submit.
Mayor Hewes shares more on the decision to let citizens express their ideas on a new flag. “We realize we didn’t have a proper flag other than it is something with our existing seal on it. So, why not involve the public in a new design and see what concepts we get and what we come up with. We hope to have something that’s entirely reflective of the community. We won’t have 1,000 different icons, but we’ll have something that is proper flag design. So, we’re excited to see the results in the submissions.”

The Gulfport Flag Commission will review all entries and select a shortlist of finalist designs, which will then be presented to the public.
