City of Gulfport helping Gulfport, Florida with relief efforts after Hurricane Helene
Gulfport is gearing up to lend a helping hand to its sister city in Florida that was hit hard by Helene last week.
Gulfport, Florida is located just outside the City of Petersburg on the western shores of the sunshine state.
The city was primarily impacted by storm surge as Helene made its way through the Gulf.
WXXV News 25’s Marco Bitonel spoke to Gulfport Mayor Billy Hewes on why the city decided to help and how you can lend a hand now.
In a social media post, the City of Gulfport, MS shared more information. Here is a list of what they are asking for:
- Water, sports drinks
- Non-perishables, baby supplies
- Cleaning items, toiletries
- Tarps, garbage bags, work boots
- Tools, tire repair kits
- Can openers, plates, plastic utensils
- Pet food
Drop off locations are:
- Fire Station 1: 1515 23rd Avenue
- Fire Station 3: 2324 Pass Road
- Fire Station 5: 641 41st Street
- Fire Station 6: 1000 East Pass Road
- Fire Station 7: 210 Cowan Road
- Fire Station 9: 15197 Dedeaux Road
The city says they are accepting donations for the next four weeks to provide initial aid with more supplies sent in late October.
The city said, “After Hurricane Zeta, Gulfport, Florida came to our aid, not let’s return the favor.”
