City of Gulfport delivering water donations to tornado victims
Gulfport firefighters were busy tonight loading up a trailer with cases of water collected during the city’s donation drive.
The cases will be delivered tomorrow to areas recovering from catastrophic tornado damage.
In just two days, the City of Gulfport collected about 1,000 cases of water. Organizers were appreciative of the community’s quick action to help fellow Mississippians, but not surprised. City of Gulfport Public Information Officer Jase Payne said, “We know what it’s like to be at Ground Zero. We’ve been here many of times…and it’s always a great feeling to give. We’ve also had people donate from all over the state. So, we had people reach out and say ‘Hey, I’m from Brandon, MS’ or “Hey, I’m in central Mississippi and we sent a delivery service and $100 to Gulfport Fire Station.”
Tomorrow morning, fire crews will deliver the water to Amory, Mississippi.
Gulfport city leaders spoke with MEMA, saying that city in particular is in desperate need of bottled water donations.
