City of Gulfport conducting smoke tests throughout Pine Hills subdivision

The City of Gulfport is conducting a smoke test on sewage pipes throughout Pine Hills subdivision.

The smoke test will last from January 23rd through the 27th between 7:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. The Public Works Department told News 25 that these smoke tests are routine inspections.

This technique is used to see where leaks may be in the pipes. Public Works and Engineering Director Wayne Miller said, “The purpose we use it for is to find leaks in the system. So, if you’re walking around and you see smoke coming out of the ground as we’re doing a smoke test, that means there is a leak or a break in the line at that given point.”

If residents notice flags in the ground, that is a sign of a leak and the flags should be left alone. After the smoke test, public works will start to fix the leaks.
