City of Gulfport Breaking Ground on New Garden
The City of Gulfport will soon be adding a new garden to beautify a part of the city.
Tomorrow, the city will have a dedication ceremony then break ground on a new community garden. The new garden will be located near the corner of 34th Avenue and 8th Avenue. The city had this over 30 acres of land donated to them from FEMA after Hurricane Katrina. The Education, Economics, Environmental, Climate and Health Organization in partnership with the City of Gulfport will be holding the groundbreaking tomorrow in honor of Earth Day.
The community garden will take up about two acres with plans to expand that to four, but city developers have even more planned for the area. Gulfport Economic Development Director David Parker said, “We want to build a pavilion for a farmer’s market that will support the garden. We’re going to have plenty of lighted parking right here. There’s going to be an additional dog park that’s planned. Currently, we have a Frisbee golf course but we want to make a really nice 20 acre Frisbee golf course.”
Tomorrow’s groundbreaking ceremony will begin at 10 a.m.
