City of Biloxi updates fireworks ordinance
The City of Biloxi held a meeting updating their fireworks ordinance.
Fireworks are allowed to be sold, but only during certain months. They can be sold from June 15th to July 4th and from December 5th starting at 6 p.m. until January 1st at 1 a.m. Fireworks can also be sold during Lunar New Year.
Anyone 18-years or older will be allowed to sell them. Sixteen-year-olds will be allowed to purchase.
Fireworks can be ignited on the day of July 4th, December 31st after 6 p.m. until January 1st, and on the first, second, and third day of Tet, in conjunction with the Dragon Dance. Director of Community Development Jerry Creel said, “We think it will be safer by putting in some controls about who can sale and who can buy. We believe that that adds to the safety factor. Also, the fact that we actually put in some distance requirements between the type of facilities that sale fireworks, fire ignitions, and gas stations and so on, we think that will make it safer.”
Fireworks are not allowed to be ignited during a parade, a public assembly, 300 yards of a railroad, or within 500 feet of a church, school, or hospital.
