City of Biloxi to fix draw on Popp’s Ferry Bridge
The City of Biloxi accepted a grant from the Mississippi Transportation Commission to fix the draw on Popp’s Ferry Bridge.
Over the years, the draw has gotten out of alignment, which caused it to not close or open completely.
The city announced plans to completely re-do the bridge and add an extension, but there is not enough funding or a start date for the project.
This grant would only fix the draw. The project is estimated to cost $15 million with $3 million coming from the city. John Majure with the City of Biloxi said, “In the interim, that’s a major thoroughfare that a lot of people use. Thousands of cars go over that. So, now we want to alleviate some of the issues that have held up the bridge, where it gets stuck open or stuck down. And this will alleviate that problem in the meantime.”
