City of Biloxi receives grant for downtown
The City of Biloxi is receiving a $2 million grant from the Mississippi Development Authority for the revitalization of downtown, specifically the Saenger Theatre.
The grant agreement was made at the city council meeting where Mayor Gilich also talked about the progress of the Saenger.
So far, the outside is nearly complete, which means the city will be moving forward with indoor renovations and getting closer to opening the doors and welcoming people in for a show.
Mayor Gilich said he expects there to be a soft opening as renovations continue in the future. “We probably won’t do a complete renovation, but enough to get rolling with some of the recitals and those kinds of things that were done by multiple groups along the Coast. We’ll open that as fast as we can. Some of the Broadway plays and concepts make take a little bit longer, a little bit more renovations.”
