City of Moss Point Faces Double Investigation

The City of Moss Point’s police department and utility department are both being investigated for potential fraud.
After discovering some discrepancies in the accounting records for the utility department, the matter was turned over to the state auditor’s criminal investigation division, according to a statement from Moss Point Mayor Billy Broomfield.
Lu Cao, owner of Lucky Seafood Po-Boys in Moss Point, says she’s experienced hundred dollar increases in her water bill the last few months. Lucky Seafood employees tell News 25 the city utility department’s explanation for the rise didn’t make sense and they’re wondering if the charges are unfair. “No, I don’t use too much water. A lot of times, I sell raw fish, everything in here, but right now, I don’t know. That’s gone up too much,” said Cao.
The Moss Point Police Department is also under investigation after problems surfaced within the police benefit account.
Mayor Broomfield said in the statement he released that the two employees that had access to the account are no longer working for the city.
