City of Diamondhead discusses ‘Envision Diamondhead 2040’ plan
Diamondhead city leaders and residents met tonight to discuss the city’s new master plan and a road map for growth over the next 20 years.
For about a year, the city has partnered with Orion Planning to create ‘Envision Diamondhead 2040,’ a plan for future expansion and the renewal of places like the city’s business district and waterfront areas.
Those in attendance had the chance to ask questions and make comments about the plan which comes as a result of extensive community input and research by the planning team. Bob Barber with Orion Planning and Design said, “The community has been very responsive. We have had upwards of 6,000 or so, 4 to 6 thousand touches on our outreach methods through the website and through community meetings.”
Diamondhead Mayor Nancy Depreo said, “We’re 50 years old, we’re coming on the 10th year being a city. We’re growing, we’re expanding, we realize we need to expand on our commercial area, keep some of that sales tax here in Diamondhead that we’re losing that’s going out.”
