City of Biloxi discussing the possibility of a new convention center
The City of Biloxi plans to discuss the possibility of bringing a new convention center complex east of the city.
There will be a city council meeting Tuesday to discuss the possibility of turning the old Tullis Property into a new $150 million convention center.
Biloxi Mayor FoFo Gilich tells News 25 BBR LLC, which is a third party, will do a study to see if the property is the most feasible site.
Mayor Gilich wants to put the convention center in east Biloxi to open up mid-week opportunities for tourists in walking and cab distance of their hotels.
This will also open up the door for more jobs and increasing revenue. Mayor Gilich said, “I think that’s what is exciting about this particular opportunity. Not just the open space, but the ability to bring and drive new kinds of business. Of course, retail always creates dollars and jobs.”
The Tullis Property was the home of the Tullis Toledano Manor. The city would use the facility for big events until it was damaged by Katrina.
