Christmas tree recycling now underway

The annual Christmas tree recycling period is now underway in two Coast counties.

The Harrison County Beautification Commission and Mississippi Power have teamed up once again to set up drop-off locations across the county.

Those five locations are:

  • Plant Watson on Cowan-Lorraine Road
  • Courthouse Road Pier
  • Highway 90 parking bay at Rodenburg Avenue
  • Long Beach Harbor
  • Pass Christian Harbor

You are asked to remove all lights and decorations before dropping off your Christmas tree. The trees will then be turned into wood chips and mulch for local parks and gardens.

There are also drop off locations in Jackson County:

  • Jackson County Rubbish Site on Seaman Road in Vancleave
  • Jackson County Recreation Department on Ball Park Road in Vancleave
  • Jackson County East Roads Department on Highway 63
  • Jackson County West Road Department on Highway 609
  • Jackson County Fairgrounds in Pascagoula

Mississippi Power officials say tree recycling is a great way to practice sustainability ahead of the new year. Cindy Duvall with Mississippi Power said, “This is a program Mississippi Power feels strongly about because it goes toward the conservation and the sustainability of the community that we serve. It’s an easy way to get involved and do the right thing for the environment and keep the beauty of Christmas throughout the year. So, what was your beautiful live Christmas tree that your family enjoyed can now be enjoyed throughout the year at our parks and our schools.”

Christmas tree recycling in Harrison County runs through January 10th and through January 31st in Jackson County.
