Christmas Card Lane tradition continues in Waveland

When it gets near Christmas time, Mollere Drive in Waveland transforms into Christmas Card Lane.

Christmas Card Lane is a tradition that has stood for 30 years. Residents of the neighborhood place large Christmas cards on their front yards with different messages and Christmas wishes on them.

The tradition used to be celebrated with block parties, Christmas carols, lights, and more. However, when Hurricane Katrina hit in 2005, the neighborhood decided to take a break from those parts of the tradition.

Today, residents of the street still encourage anyone looking for a little Christmas joy to drive by and take a look. Mollere Drive resident Nancy Finlason said, “This is a tradition. We moved here in 1979 and the tradition was going on. So, everybody in the neighborhood puts up their Christmas cards, and it’s just wonderful to see all the cars going up and down and enjoying the Christmas holiday. It’s a neighborhood function, and we enjoy it.”

Residents of the area are hoping to bring back more of the original excitement from pre-Katrina starting next year with Christmas caroling on the street.
