Chris Ryle appointed next Gulfport Police Chief
Protect and serve. It’s something Chris Ryle has done throughout his 22 years with the Gulfport Police Department, at ease eating with local school children or paying homage to a fallen hero in blue.
Soon, Ryle will officially transition from deputy police chief to the city’s top law enforcement officer, replacing Chief Leonard Papania, who is retiring.
Chris Ryle has certainly earned his stripes over the years. “All 22 years have been with the Gulfport Police Department. Obviously, I started off with patrol. I did various duties, spent the majority of my career in criminal investigations and with the last several years in administration.”
The Gulfport City Council unanimously approved of the appointment of Chris Ryle as the chief of police in Gulfport. He officially becomes the police chief on September 1st. “What we’re looking at once we get our command staff together, we want to focus on the image. We have a great image. We just always want to improve it. We want to focus on sustainability of our workforce. We also want to work on juvenile justice, juvenile reform and juvenile programs, and our final part of the four-point plan is our community relations.”
A humble man apparently fit for this next step in his storied career of protecting and serving our local community.
