Chimney sweeping season in full gear for the holidays
Many people’s favorite spot in the house in the cold seasons is the fireplace, but when it comes to one, maintenance is important.
After several uses of a fireplace, soot begins to form inside the chimney which can be a major fire hazard the longer it is ignored.
It is recommended that you call a local chimney sweep to help clean the soot out as well as inspect the chimney for any other problems or damages.
One tip for those at home is to make sure you use dry, seasoned wood for the fireplace. Top Hat Fireplace Store Chimney Sweep Joshua Sullivan said, “You gotta understand that you’re building a fire in your house, so you want that system to be as clean and efficient as possible. You don’t want any mistakes or nothing like that. You just need to have that peace of mind that when you burn that fire, nothing else will happen inside that house.”
The National Fire Protection Association recommends getting your chimney cleaned and inspected at least once a year.
