Children make treats for HSSM shelter pets

GULFPORT, Miss. (WXXV) — Quite a few little animal lovers packed the Humane Society of South Mississippi on Friday morning to beat the summer boredom and help out shelter pets in return.

Club Paws program attendees put their treat-making skills to the test by assembling enrichment treats. These treats are more than just a yummy surprise for those dogs and cats — they provide mental stimulation, encourage good behavior and reduce stress.

Of course, the Club Paws kids wrapped up their morning with a trip through some of the kennel areas to give the dogs bones!

WXXV News 25’s Elizabeth Keen spoke to a few young attendees, who spoke about some of their favorite things that come from interacting with the animals.
